Fall
and
Winter
2002
The fall 2002
collections are all about comfort clothes - elements of formal mixed with the
casual. The silhouette has loosened up, but never with a slouch. Attention has
turned to luxurious practicality. Whether leather, shearling, knitwear or
denim, the lines are clean, the styling classic and the detailing exceptional. |

THE BUSINESS SUIT.
For fall there is a major emphasis on two-button suits, double-breasteds and
for tried-and-true three button models, a host of new details like side vents,
ticket pockets and peak lapels.

ü
COLOR.
Solid black suits might take top honors as the market leader, but the
clothing men are convinced that it's time to give strong competition with new
medium blues, earth tones and browns. And they're backing it up with stripes,
soft glen plaids and windowpanes, all with rich color accents.
ü
SPORT COATS. We will see plenty of sport coats and blazers this
fall. It is the perfect alternative to the suit. There are new textured
solids and plenty of plaids and checks that are right for business.
ü
SLACKS. The British accent is unmistakable in the
pleats, plaids and particulars showing up in fall's lineup of dress
slacks. With corporate America starting to clean up its act, there
is a return to patterns, luxury fabrics and stretch.
Men are buying better slacks to wear with leathers
and suedes; also knits and sweaters.
There is a comeback to more patterns - everything
from graph checks and micro neats to large glen plaids and
windowpanes. They are in interesting colors, like rust, olives and
chestnut browns.
The comeback of patterns has also revived the
beltless slack with side tabs with either British forward or reverse
pleats.
Probably the most important development for fall is
natural-stretch fabrics. The key word now is comfort and that means
performance fabrics, like high-twist wools with natural stretch
and stretch waistbands. |

ü
SHIRT.
There is definitely a move
back to a more dress-type shirt. The fabrics are dress, but they are mostly worn
as sport shirts - buttondown oxfords, but without ties. |
